If the Internet is still around a millennia from now and Reddit was kept archived, future people would be so confused as to why the same page was repeated several times a year ad nauseam. Basically, it's made up of a huge number of people who aren't on constantly. Someone could've been on the site for 5 years and not seen this post, and therefore upvote it as new.The vocal minority who are on Reddit enough to see the majority of front page posts don't have enough downvote power (and heck, some of them who've seen it before but still got a chuckle out of it this time might actually upvote it) to combat the overwhelming number of more casual users.
